This study employed various carbon materials, including platelet-type carbon nanofibers (pCNFs) that underwent heat treatment at 2000°C (pCNF2000), 2400°C (pCNF2400), and 3000°C (pCNF3000). Additionally, two types of commercial carbon black materials were used: TOKA Black#3800 from Tokai Carbon (TB) and acetylene black from Strem Chemicals (AB).Carbon materials play a crucial role as supports for electrocatalytic nanoparticles, such as Pt and transition metal oxide nanoparticles. They also serve as conductive additives in alkaline fuel cells and aqueous metal-air rechargeable batteries. In these electrochemical energy conversion devices, corrosion-resistant carbon materials are essential. The present study underscores the potential of highly graphitized platelet-type carbon nanofibers (pCNFs) for such applications. Achieving a uniform coverage of the carbon edge plane with hydroxyl species is identified as a key factor for passivation, providing a significant avenue for designing corrosion-resistant carbon materials.FWHM stands for "Full Width at Half Maximum." It represents the width of a curve at half of its maximum amplitude, describing the extent of a distribution or the range of values over which a function or signal is equal to or greater than half of its maximum value. RHE stands for " Reversible Hydrogen Electrode." It is a reference electrode used in electrochemical experiments to standardize and measure the potential of half-cells.
