In this paper, I examine the impact of race and gender on campaign fundraising at the state level. I discuss how incumbency status equals the playing field for women across racial groups, but the story looks different for women across racial groups as challengers and in open seat elections. Overall, Black women face an uphill battle in fundraising as a challenger and an open seat elections as compared to their female counterparts of other racial groups
