Their geographical coordinates range from 2°7′3″W to 0°43′25″W, and 59°30′24″N to 60°51′39″N. The archipelago consists of 1018 islands and independent reefs with an area greater than 6 m², with a total area of 1491.33 km² and a total coastline length of 2060.13 km. Its main islands include Mainland, Yell, Unst, Fetlar, Bressay, Whalsay, Muckle Roe and Fair Isle. Among them, Mainland is the largest island, covering an area of 960.30 km² and having a coastline length of 962.70 km. In the Shetland Islands, there are 23 islands with an area of 1 km² or above, accounting for 2% of the total number of islands; most islands have an area between 100 m² and 1 km², totaling 944, accounting for 93% of the total number of islands. This dataset was developed based on Google Earth remote sensing imagery and combined with reference materials such as relevant maps. The data is stored in .kmz and .shp formats, with a compressed data size of 8.58 MB.
