This project is the continuation of the study that was described by Abdelrahman et al., 2022, in which 175 Actinomycetes strains were isolated from rhizosphere and bulk soil samples collected in 18 locations in Sudan. The strains' ability to inhibit the oomycete Phytophthora infestans was investigated. Considering the importance of elucidating the compounds underlying the observed anti-P. infestans activity, we sequenced the whole genome of several closely and distantly related Streptomyces strains that represent active and inactive groups against P. infestans to identify the strains to the species level as well as to use a comparative genomics approach which might give insights into the active metabolites that caused/induced the pathogen inhibition.
