Investigation of jumbo phages in sewage influent water by metagenomic approach

In recent years, many phages have been isolated from the environment due to the rise of phage research. In particular, many phages have been isolated from sewage. Among the phages isolated, it has been revealed that there are phages with larger genomes than expected ( called jumbo phages). The jumboIt is difficult to classify giant phages due to their low genetic similarity. Thus, it is necessary to collect more data. In this project, we conducted a metagenomic analysis to search for unknown giant phage.

近年来，随着噬菌体（phage）研究的兴起，科研人员已从多种环境中分离出大量噬菌体。其中，诸多噬菌体来自污水环境。研究表明，在已分离的噬菌体中，存在基因组规模远超预期的噬菌体，即巨型噬菌体（jumbo phages）。这类巨型噬菌体因遗传相似性较低，难以进行分类，因此亟需收集更多相关数据。本项目通过宏基因组分析（metagenomic analysis），旨在搜寻未知的巨型噬菌体。
