Shrimp aquaculture is significant for employment and food security. Uncontrolled blooms of Microcystis aeruginosa cause water deterioration and make it less suitable for shrimp welfare in shrimp farming. Its repercussions on shrimp growth and mortality led the researchers to investigate the inhibiting potential of hydrogen peroxide against cyanobacteria. However, the dangers associated with using hydrogen peroxide are primarily related to the proper doses and concentration levels, which prompted the researchers to also focus on studying the appropriate uses and doses of hydrogen peroxide and its effects on shrimp growth and its survival rate for shrimp farming because the usage of permitted hydrogen peroxide is not well-established. Testing different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide for various treatments to see its effects on the nitrification process, they measured the inhibiting potency from its uncontrolled bloom and the shrimp biomass using shrimp growth and survival rate data. The study revealed the effectiveness of hydrogen peroxide at an ideal concentration. The researchers suggest using hydrogen peroxide in shrimp aquaculture against cyanobacteria to achieve good harvests in shrimp farming. Also, to harvest more shrimp, shrimp farm operators should be aware of the various impacts of hydrogen peroxide on shrimp welfare.
