Description: This dataset supports the research article titled “Mechanical Characteristics of Tara Gum/Orange Peel films influenced by the synergical effect on the rheological properties of the film forming solutions”. Research hypothesis: The hypothesis of this study is that the synergistic effects in the rheological behavior of mixtures (tara gum, glycerol and orange peel extract) influence the mechanical performance of the resulting biodegradable films. What the data shows: The dataset contains rheological parameters of film-forming solutions, mechanical properties (tensile strength, elongation at break and Young’s Modulus), water vapor permeability, solubility values, and FTIR spectra of the films. The results reveal significant correlations between the viscoelastic behavior of the solutions and the mechanical strength of the films. Notable findings: The results demonstrated a strong correlation (R² = 0.840) between the storage modulus (G′) and Young’s modulus of the films, indicating that solutions with greater internal cohesion led to stiffer, more structurally consistent films. The synergy between tara gum (TG) and orange peel powder (OP) was key to optimizing the polymeric matrix: TG contributed to stiffness and mechanical reinforcement, while OP enhanced structural cohesion and stability. Glycerol (GL) acted as a plasticizer, increasing flexibility but reducing stiffness. How the data can be interpreted: The dataset includes the raw data obtained from the experimental work. Specific details about the experimental conditions—such as formulation ratios, temperatures, drying methods, and equipment—are fully described in the associated research article. This data can be used for further analysis, replication studies, or for comparison in research focused on biopolymer films and their structure–property relationships. This dataset was generated in 2024 at Universidad Nacional de San Agustín de Arequipa - Perú, and is openly shared to promote transparency and reproducibility in sustainable materials research.
