DevOps Education: An Interview Study of Challenges and Recommendations

Over the last years, the software industry has adopted several DevOps technologies related to practices such as continuous integration and continuous delivery. The high demand for DevOps practitioners requires non-trivial adjustments in traditional software engineering courses and educational methodologies. This work presents an interview study with 14 DevOps educators from different universities and countries, aiming to identify the main challenges and recommendations for DevOps teaching. Our study identified 83 challenges, 185 recommendations, and several association links and conflicts between them. Our findings can help educators plan, execute and evaluate DevOps courses. They also highlight several opportunities for researchers to propose new methods and tools for teaching DevOps.近年来，软件行业已采纳了多项与持续集成（Continuous Integration）、持续交付（Continuous Delivery）等实践相关的开发运维（DevOps）技术。市场对开发运维从业者的旺盛需求，使得传统软件工程课程与教育方法论亟需开展实质性调整。本研究针对来自不同国家、不同高校的14名开发运维教育者开展了访谈研究，旨在明确开发运维教学面临的主要挑战与可行建议。本次研究共梳理出83项教学挑战、185条优化建议，以及各类挑战与建议间的关联关系与冲突点。本研究结论可助力教育者规划、实施与评估开发运维课程，同时也为研究者提出开发运维教学的新型方法与工具指明了若干机遇。
