This study aimed to evaluate the effects of varying fat levels and ratios of coconut to palm fat on solid feed intake and growth performance of male dairy calves fed high allowance of milk replacer. Calves were fed three different levels of fat (17 %, 24 %, 31 %) in study 1, and three different coconut to palm fat ratios (20:80, 35:65, and 50:50 %) in study 2. Results showed that feeding a low-fat milk replacer (17 % of the DM) formulated with a spray-dried blend of 20 % coconut to 80 % palm fat promoted solid feed intake and growth performance, and that feeding a spray-dried blend of 35 % coconut to 65 % palm fat, included at 21 % fat in the DM, resulted in greater growth performance. This study suggests that fat levels and different ratios of coconut to palm fat may be used to modulate solid feed intake and improve calf growth performance of calves fed high allowance of milk replacer.
