MRL mice have the unique ability to regenerate ear punch wounds, while dorsal wounds heal with a scar, enabling controlled comparisons of regenerative and non-regenerative repair mechanisms in the same mouse. Using hybrid crosses between MRL and non-regenerating mice (CAST/Eij), we capitalize on allele-specific expression to identify cis- regulatory variation associated with divergent ear and dorsal healing outcomes.
