This dataset is designed to investigate the effects of microbial characteristics of different biological soil crusts on soil multifunctionality. It presents physicochemical properties, species abundance, functional gene abundance and other relevant metrics of various biological soil crusts. Software including RStudio and Origin were utilized to calculate soil multifunctionality and α diversity, as well as to generate co-occurrence network plots. The study revealed that moss-dominated biological soil crusts possess the highest soil multifunctionality, whereas lichen-dominated biological soil crusts exhibit the strongest interspecific interactions. Network complexity and the diversity of nitrogen cycling functional genes are the primary drivers of soil multifunctionality.
