A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire; Alconbury Landscape Block

This is a child collection of the main A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon archaeological project archive. For the purposes of analysis, the various targeted excavation areas (TEAs) that formed the mitigation work have been grouped into eight Landscape Blocks. These have been defined due to the nature of the archaeology, their geographical location, and in some cases, their geology/topography. This child collection concerns the Alconbury Landscape Block. Alconbury comprises four TEAs (2-4 and 5), covering 7.2 hectares on river terrace gravels and alluvium to west and south of Alconbury Brook. Archaeological remains from the Prehistoric, Iron Age, Roman, and Saxon periods were encountered.

本数据集为A14剑桥至亨廷顿考古项目主档案的子数据集。为开展分析工作，构成本次抢救性发掘作业的各目标发掘区（Targeted Excavation Areas，TEAs）已被划分为8个景观区块。这些景观区块的划分依据为考古遗存特征、地理位置，部分情况下还参考了地质/地形条件。本子数据集聚焦奥尔康伯里（Alconbury）景观区块。奥尔康伯里景观区块包含4个目标发掘区（TEAs 2-4及5），分布于奥尔康伯里溪西侧与南侧的河阶砾石层及冲积层之上，覆盖面积达7.2公顷。本次发掘中发现了史前时期、铁器时代、罗马时期以及撒克逊时期的考古遗存。
