This dataset is organized as a set of time-series tables that systematically document the kinematic and dynamic evolution of the gravity current/turbidity current front under different cases (Case 2/5/8/10/A–G). In each case sheet, time denotes the output time; x/L0 is the dimensionless streamwise position normalized by the characteristic length L0; (+x) and (+y) represent the front position (or the location of the extreme front) in the positive x and y directions, respectively; Velocity (+x) and Velocity (+y) are the corresponding front velocity components in the positive x and y directions; h_x and h_y denote the characteristic flow thicknesses near the front, which are typically used for non-dimensionalization and similarity analysis; reduced g is the reduced gravity, which quantifies the buoyancy forcing associated with the density contrast; and Fr_x and Fr_y are the Froude numbers calculated in the positive x and y directions, respectively. In addition, the worksheet entitled “Run-out distance of LES and EXP” is used to compare the run-out distances obtained from large-eddy simulation (LES) and experimental measurements (EXP). In this sheet, the column names encode the case number (e.g., case5), the measurement direction (e.g., xmax, ymax, or ymin), and the data source (LES or EXP). Some columns are labeled as Unnamed:#DIV/0!, which is most likely caused by merged headers or blank header cells in Excel
