The ESA Fire Climate Change Initiative (CCI) project has generated global burned area maps based on satellite observations. The AVHRR-LTDR Pixel v1.1 product detailed herein contains global burned area gridded data derived from the spectral information of the NASA-produced Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) Land Long-Term Data Record (LTDR) Version 5 dataset.

This dataset provides monthly global burned area information for the period 1982 to 2018 at a spatial resolution of 0.05 degrees, matching the resolution of the AVHRR-LTDR input data. The year 1994 is omitted due to insufficient input data. The dataset is distributed as monthly GeoTIFF files, packaged into annual tar.gz archives, and includes five types of files: the burned area ("BA") detection date (labeled as "JD"), confidence label ("CL"), burned area per pixel ("BA"), number of observations during the month ("OB"), and a metadata file.
