These are data from the survey on electricity consumption in the industrial sector in Brazil. The research period was from 2003 to 2020 and considered that industrial consumption is explained by the price of electricity, industrial production, the price of natural gas, the level of imports and the climatic variables, average temperature, and level of rainfall.
The study considered six static estimators and one dynamic estimator (GMM) to verify robustness.
The main findings were: The impacts of COVID-19 were significant in all models, especially for the more industrialized states; the participation of industry (industrial production) has been declining in recent years, impacting less and less electricity consumption and; the price elasticity of demand for industrial electricity is more elastic in the more industrialized states, showing a systematic effect of levels of development and wealth generation on the price elasticity of electricity.
