Microbial Dark Matter project: Applying single-cell genomics, we targeted and sequenced uncultivated archaeal and bacterial cells from nine diverse habitats belonging to 28 major uncharted branches of the tree of life. With this genomic information, we could resolve numerous intra- and inter-phylum level relationships and discovered unexpected metabolic features that extend our understanding of biology and challenge established boundaries between the three domains of life.

微生物暗物质（Microbial Dark Matter）研究项目：本项目采用单细胞基因组学技术，对来自9类不同生境、隶属于生命系统发育树28个全新未知分支的未培养古菌与细菌细胞开展靶向测序工作。依托获得的基因组数据，本研究解析了大量门内及跨门的进化关系，并发现了诸多新颖的代谢特征：这些发现不仅拓展了我们对生物学的认知边界，同时也对生命三域间既有的划分标准提出了挑战。
