Human brain microbiomes were characterized using a high-fidelity, pan-domain, species-specific, full-length 16S rRNA amplification method using Pacific Biosciences HiFi long-read circular consensus sequencing. To assess potential post-mortem microbial contamination of the autopsied brain specimen, the difference in microbial abundance between the environmentally-exposed surface (edge) and the non-exposed core of fresh-frozen brain specimens was analyzed.
