Standard errors provided are calculated from the bootstrap distributions. Briefly, differences in z indicate changes in contrast gain whereas σ is the standard deviation of the internal noise. The predictions based on these parameters are shown in Figs 3 and 4. The mean across observers is reported with its standard error.
