Microbial Dark Matter project: Applying single-cell genomics, we targeted and sequenced uncultivated archaeal and bacterial cells from nine diverse habitats belonging to 28 major uncharted branches of the tree of life. With this genomic information, we could resolve numerous intra- and inter-phylum level relationships and discovered unexpected metabolic features that extend our understanding of biology and challenge established boundaries between the three domains of life.
微生物暗物质(Microbial Dark Matter)研究项目:本研究采用单细胞基因组学技术,对来自9种不同生境的未培养古菌与细菌细胞开展靶向测序,这些细胞分属于生命之树的28个此前未被探明的主要演化分支。依托该基因组数据,我们厘清了多个门类内部及跨门类的演化关系,并发现了诸多新颖的代谢特征,这些特征拓展了人类对生物学的认知,同时挑战了生命三域间既定的分类边界。
