Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are an enigmatic population of energetic radio pulses that are thought to be produced at cosmological distances. While most FRBs have only been seen as a single burst of emission, repeat bursts have recently been identified from FRB 121102 discovered at Arecibo. We propose to follow up the exceptionally bright and well localised FRB 150807 to search for repeated pulses and periodic emission. If the burst is found to repeat, we will be able to confirm the link between Parkes and Arecibo FRBs; if it is found to have periodic emission, we will demonstrate that FRBs are associated with rotating objects such as neutron stars. If neither is found, our results will suggest that there are multiple classes of FRBs.

快速射电暴(Fast Radio Bursts,FRBs)是一类神秘的高能射电脉冲群体,据信产生于宇宙学距离之外。尽管绝大多数FRBs仅被观测到单次爆发信号,但近期在阿雷西博天文台发现的FRB 121102已被证实存在重复爆发。本研究拟对亮度极高且定位精准的FRB 150807开展后续观测,以搜寻其重复脉冲与周期性射电辐射。若该暴体被证实存在重复爆发,则可证实帕克斯天文台与阿雷西博天文台观测到的FRBs之间存在关联;若观测到其周期性辐射,则可证明FRBs与中子星等旋转天体存在绑定关系。若上述两种现象均未被观测到,则本研究结果将表明FRBs存在多个不同的类别。
