VPRS 982 Register of Gazettals, Sites for Public Buildings

The Public Works Department (VA 669) had wide-ranging responsibilities for all public works and buildings, including construction, maintenance and fitting out of these buildings. Other major responsibilities included roads and bridges, ports and harbours, local government and water supply. Part of their responsibilities was the acquisition of sites for public buildings.This series contains the texts of notices placed in the Government Gazette regarding the designation and acquisition of these sites often for schools, court houses and police buildings. Notices were originally handwritten, but later were simply a cut-out extract from the Government Gazette with the date and page of publication.The series appears to be incomplete with the volume in custody containing a large number of extracted notices which have not been attached or indexed.
