Acetate imparts resistance to oxidative stress in Neisseria meningitidis

Neisseria meningitidis utilizes host acetate to develop oxidative stress resistance by upregulating the oxidative stress response genes. In presence of acetate meningococci suppress the macrophage ROS and RNS production to persist longer inside the macrophages.

脑膜炎奈瑟菌（Neisseria meningitidis）可通过上调氧化应激应答基因，利用宿主乙酸盐赋予自身抗氧化应激抗性。当环境中存在乙酸盐时，该菌可抑制巨噬细胞活性氧（ROS）与活性氮（RNS）的产生，进而实现在巨噬细胞内的长期定植。
