A Staphylococcus sciuri isolate, currently identified as Mammaliicoccus sciuri was isolated from street food samples gathered in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, as part of a public health surveillance initiative program. The coagulase-negative staphylococcal species Mammaliicoccus sciuri is becoming more widely known for its involvement in human opportunistic illnesses and antibiotic resistance. Due to the high risk of cross contamination and the widespread consumption of street food in crowded metropolitan areas, foodborne transmission of these resistant bacteria poses a serious health risk. Standard microbiological techniques were used to isolate bacteria from samples obtained from different street vendors. We extracted genomic DNA from pure cultures and sequenced it using the Illumina NextSeq 2000 platform with paired-end 150 bp reads at about 50X coverage. Several antimicrobial resistance genes, including those linked to beta-lactam resistance and efflux processes, were discovered through genome assembly and annotation. Additionally, a number of genes linked to virulence were found, indicating possible pathogenicity. This dataset provides useful genetic data on Mammaliicoccus sciuri from a low-resource, non-clinical, food-associated source. These results emphasize how crucial it is to keep an eye out for bacterial contamination in street food and the potential health risks. Future research on the molecular epidemiology, resistance profiling, and phylogenetic relationships of Mammaliicoccus sciuri and related species will be aided by the submitted WGS data.
