The Department of Main Roads regularly commissioned Licensed and Registered Surveyors to survey the resumption of existing roads or future road sites prior to undertaking road works. Little documentation exists on the provenance or procedures regarding the creation of the records in this series or the circumstances of Land and Property Information's (LPI) inheritance of the field books from the Department of Main Roads (DMR). This series does represent one of LPI's primary road survey records. The field books contain the following information:-Field book numberPurpose of surveydates of registration and transmissionportion or allotment and section number, parish and county, municipality or shire, city, town or villagea diagram to illustrate the survey to facilitate the preparation of a complete and accurate planthe position of improvementsRecords are arranged alphanumerically. Each has an alpha record number beginning with DMR and followed by a number.
