Ruins of Tada-Hori mine mechanical plant
Ruins of Tada-Hori mine Smelter mechanical ore dressing plant Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
Ruins of Tada-Hori Mine Smelter Mechanical Ore Dressing Plant The Tada Silver-Copper Mine was awarded a mining patent under the name "Tada Mine" in Meiji 28 (1895) by Fujujuro Reizo Hori, a mining entrepreneur from Tsuwano, Shimane Prefecture, under the name of his predecessor "Fujujuro Bansei Hori". Production of silver, copper, and lead commenced in Meiji 30 (1897), with local residents acting as contractors for mining, ore dressing, and smelting operations. To modernize the mine, Fujujuro Reizo Hori introduced smelters and mechanical ore dressing facilities utilizing Western technology into the mines under his management. In Meiji 39 (1906), Tada Mine planned to transition from manual ore dressing to mechanical ore dressing to expand its production scale. The following year, the buildings were completed and installation of machinery progressed. However, a sharp collapse in silver and copper prices starting in the autumn of 1907 forced the mine to suspend operations in 1908 (Meiji 41). The mine remained known as "Tada-Hori Mine" until its mining rights were transferred to Kuhara Mining Co., Ltd. (later Nippon Mining Co., Ltd.) in Taisho 14 (1925). The ruins of the Hori family smelter were covered with fill when the Nippon Mining Tada Mine ceased operations in Showa 48 (1973). Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
