Axonal projections from the D2 whisker representation of the rat primary somatosensory cortex (case R602)

Bright-field microscopy images of serial coronal brain sections showing anterogradely labeled axons in an adult male Wistar rat following injection of biotinylated dextran amine in the D2 whisker representation of the primary somatosensory cortex. The labeling was visualized histologically in sections counterstained to visualize cytoarchitecture. The presence of cytochrome oxidase positive barrels has been visualized in selected sections through the sensorimotor cortex.

本数据集包含成年雄性Wistar大鼠的连续冠状脑切片的明场显微镜（Bright-field microscopy）图像。该大鼠经向初级躯体感觉皮层的D2胡须代表区注射生物素化葡聚糖胺（biotinylated dextran amine）后，其轴突被顺行标记，上述图像即展示了这些顺行标记轴突（anterogradely labeled axons）。所有切片均经复染色以显示细胞构筑（cytoarchitecture），并通过组织学方法实现标记物的可视化。此外，部分穿过感觉运动皮层的选定切片中，细胞色素氧化酶阳性桶状结构（barrels）也被成功可视化。
