This study collected fine roots from canopy and forest floor soils of old-growth bigleaf maple trees in Washington's (USA) temperate rainforests. The overall goal was to determine if root-associated fungal community composition was different between the two soil environments and if communities shifted spatially and seasonally. Root-associated fungal communities were sequenced on both the MinION Nanopore Sequencer and Illumina MiSeq.

本研究从美国华盛顿州温带雨林内的原生大叶枫冠层及林地土壤中采集细根。本研究的核心目标为明确两种土壤环境中根系相关真菌群落组成是否存在差异,且群落是否会随空间与季节变化发生演替。研究团队分别采用MinION纳米孔测序仪与Illumina MiSeq测序仪对根系相关真菌群落进行测序。
