This file provides the dataset of a randomized controlled trial conducted in Brazil in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. As schools were closed, a group of 2,980 children received access to the Escribo Play instructional app. The students did gamified pretests to assess their word reading and early mathematics skills. The randomly allocated experimental group played a sequence of 20 early mathematics games while the control group played a sequence of 20 early literacy games. After the instructional games, students did the gamified reading and mathematics posttests.
