Dodders (<i>Cuscuta</i> spp., Convolvulaceae) are root- and leafless parasitic plants that parasitize a wide range of hosts. <i>C. australis</i> genome harbors only 19671 protein-coding genes, and 11.7% of the conserved orthologs in autotrophic plants are lost in <i>C. australis</i>. Many of these gene loss events likely result from its parasitic lifestyle and large body plan changes. This dataset is online supplementary material from the doctoral thesis of Yuxing Xu in Kunming Institute of Botany.

菟丝子(*Cuscuta* spp.,旋花科Convolvulaceae)是一类无根无叶的寄生植物,可寄生于多种寄主植物。南方菟丝子(*C. australis*)的基因组仅包含19671个蛋白质编码基因(protein-coding genes),自养植物中11.7%的保守直系同源基因(orthologs)在该物种中发生了丢失。此类基因丢失事件多与其寄生生活方式及体型构型的大幅改变密切相关。本数据集为徐宇星在中国科学院昆明植物研究所完成的博士学位论文的在线补充材料。
