Monitoring Harvest of the Qamanirjuaq Caribou Herd and Estimating the Economic Value of the Harvest for Five Mainland Kivalliq Communities (NGMP ID EC42)

To obtain accurate, current information on the harvest of Qamanirjuaq caribou to assist with conservation of the herd and protection of the traditional subsistence caribou harvest.Short-term Objectives (Kivalliq sub-project):1)To estimate the numbers of Qamanirjuaq caribou harvested by Kivalliq communities annually.2)To obtain quantitative and qualitative information on the annual harvest of caribou by harvesters from the five Kivalliq communities which harvest the Qamanirjuaq caribou herd (Arviat, Baker Lake, Chesterfield Inlet, Rankin Inlet*, Whale Cove).3)To assess the economic value of the estimated annual harvest of Qamanirjuaq caribou to Kivalliq communities.Medium-term objectives (multi-jurisdictional project):1)To estimate the total harvest of Qamanirjuaq caribou in a given year**.2)To obtain quantitative and qualitative information on the annual harvest of Qamanirjuaq caribou by communities across the caribou range.3)To assess the economic value of the estimated annual harvest of Qamanirjuaq caribou, as well as value of the harvest to individual regions of the caribou range, using an appraisal that incorporates all categories of harvest.4)To identify if the total harvest of the Qamanirjuaq herd is currently at a level that is sustainable in relation to the herds current size and trend.*Rankin Inlet is collecting information using a different approach but collaborating with the project.**Total harvest includes:i) all categories of harvest - traditional subsistence harvest, harvest for private sales and inter-regional trade, resident (licensed) harvest, non-resident (outfitted) harvest and commercial harvest andii) harvest in all regions of the caribou range - in the southern Kivalliq region of Nunavut, eastern Northwest Territories, northern Saskatchewan and northern Manitoba.

3) 评估估算所得的卡马纽尔乔阿克驯鹿年度狩猎量对基瓦利克社区的经济价值。
*注：兰金因莱特采用不同方式收集信息，但仍与本项目协作。

中期目标（多辖区项目）：
1) 估算某一给定年度**卡马纽尔乔阿克驯鹿的总狩猎量。
2) 获取卡马纽尔乔阿克驯鹿分布范围内各社区每年狩猎该种群的定量与定性信息。
3) 通过涵盖所有狩猎类别的评估方法，估算卡马纽尔乔阿克驯鹿年度狩猎量的经济价值，以及该狩猎量对驯鹿分布范围内各区域的经济价值。
4) 确定当前卡马纽尔乔阿克驯鹿种群的总狩猎量是否处于与其当前种群规模及种群趋势相匹配的可持续水平。

**总狩猎量包含：
i) 所有类别的狩猎活动：传统生计狩猎、用于私人售卖及跨区域贸易的狩猎、本地居民（持证）狩猎、非本地居民（向导陪同）狩猎以及商业狩猎；
ii) 驯鹿分布范围内所有区域的狩猎活动：努纳武特省南部基瓦利克地区、西北地区东部、萨斯喀彻温省北部以及马尼托巴省北部。
