This is a nationally representative stratified random sample of over 445,960 persons, from 63318 rural households and 37263 urban households spread over the country, was surveyed. The West Bengal segment, which I am concentrating on for my dissertation, covers a sample size of 5300 individuals. The NSS data gives us the information on social groups, the detailed list of the occupations in each class, localities (i.e. rural or urban) one belongs to, the household characteristics, the types of educational institutions, the constraints of educational institutions, and the highest level of education attained, among many others, are critical for my analysis.

本数据集为具有全国代表性的分层随机抽样样本，覆盖全国分散分布的63318户农村家庭与37263户城镇家庭，受访个体总量逾445960名。本研究用于学位论文的西孟加拉邦（West Bengal）子样本，包含5300名受访个体。全国抽样调查（National Sample Survey, NSS）数据集涵盖社会群体类别、各阶层职业明细、所属地域类型（农村或城镇）、家庭特征、教育机构类型、教育资源约束条件以及最高受教育水平等诸多维度的信息，上述内容均为本研究分析的核心依据。
