Murine cecal microbiota samples during C. difficile infection

The goal of this study was to investigate the innate immune response to Clostridioides difficile infection during anti-toxin antibody treatment. By neutralizing toxin, this uncouples the immune response from toxin-induced inflammation. Importantly, this work helps delineate potentially conflicting findings for the role of inflammation during infection, such as infiltration of neutrophils or innate lymphoid cells into the intestine. Better understanding this immune response to C. difficile helps identify beneficial versus pathogenic responses to infection.
