Pig intestinal bacterial collection (PIBAC)

Many gut bacteria are still unknown, which hampers full understanding of microbe-host interactions and microbiome-based applications. Although pigs are very important animals in both biomedical research and agriculture, knowledge about their intestinal microbiota is still scant despite its major impacts on host physiology. Here we report new data on the cultured fraction of pig intestinal microbiomes and thereby open avenues for functional studies. We established a collection of 112 species across 39 families and 9 phyla, which is the most comprehensive resource of pig gut bacteria available to date.

目前仍有大量肠道细菌尚未被认知，这阻碍了学界对微生物-宿主互作以及基于微生物组（microbiome）的应用的全面理解。尽管猪在生物医学研究与农业领域均为极为重要的模式动物与经济动物，但目前学界对其肠道微生物群（intestinal microbiota）的认知仍较为匮乏，尽管其对宿主生理机能具有显著影响。本研究报道了猪肠道微生物组可培养组分的全新数据，从而为相关功能研究开辟了新路径。我们构建了涵盖9个门、39个科、共计112个物种的菌种收藏库，这是截至目前已公开的最为全面的猪肠道细菌研究资源。
