This dataset records experimental data on the niche evolutionary dynamics of Escherichia coli (E. coli) populations exposed to abruptly altered extreme pH environments, and includes analytical results of relative fitness changes at generations 500, 1000, and 2000 across four evolutionary replicate groups. These results validate the explanatory power of the "shifting niche" model for global niche deformation and uncover the transient increase in niche width associated with the "avoiding niche" model, as reported in the paper "The dynamics of niche evolution upon abrupt environmental change".
