The long-termed development of the German school system in the 19th and 20th century

Long term time series on education were collected in order to demonstrate quantitatively the different periods of the development of the German educational system from 1775 and 1989. (Claude Diebolt: L’Évolution de longue Période du Système Éducatif Allemand, XIX et XX Siècles. Cahiers de l’ISMÉA. Économies et Sociétés. Série: Histoire Quantitative de L’Économie Française. A.F. no. 23, 1997. S. 27). This study serves as a reverence work for the development of the German educational system. The data collection in HISTAT is focused on the period from 1775 to 1945. In order to reach the goal to be a reference work for German educational history, long series from all points in time of the investigation period and on all important variables in the area of primary, secondary schooling, universities, population and selected macroeconomic indicators were made available. The author made time series from different underlying statistics comparable and complemented missing data with own estimations (Diebolt, 1997, a.a.O., S. 28). The data base from the literature and from the research process was assessed on the basis of three criteria: the statistical series must be representative, homogeneous and continuous (C.
