<font color=blue> 2002/49/EC</font> The European Directive on environmental noise management and its transposition into state legislation through the Noise Law <font color=blue> 37/2003</font> and the Royal Decrees implementing it <font color=blue> 1513/2005</font> and <font color=blue> 1367/2007</font> establish the obligation to draw up the Strategic Noise Maps (MER) for the major roads, consisting of those whose traffic density exceeds three million vehicles per year. This threshold affects all the islands except El Hierro and La Gomera, therefore the maps have been drawn up on roads of La Palma, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
