Heading for the hills: climate-driven community relocations in the Solomon Islands and Alaska provide insight for a 1.5 C future

The diversity of responses across the four case studies provides critical insight into anticipated environmental responses to a 1.5 °C warming over the coming century such as a 1-m rise in sea level and increased coastal erosion and flooding. Exceeding the 1.5 °C target will substantially increase the coastal populations that will be forced to relocate from accelerated sea-level rise. By analyzing the facilitators and inhibitors of the process of relocation and also the concerns and benefits associated with the outcome, we can learn valuable lessons to guide future relocation efforts.
