Confirmed Drug Overdose ED Visits by ONS Neighbourhood of Patient

Unconfirmed diagnoses are excluded.</li><li>Geographic data are extracted yearly by OPH from NACRS using IntelliHEALTH Ontario and includes unscheduled ED visits for poisoning by narcotics, hallucinogens, hypnotics, stimulants and cannabis (T40.0-T40.9; T423 and T436).</li><li>ED visits may underestimate the full extent of drug overdoses occurring in the community as not all individuals experiencing overdose seek care.</li><li>The attribution of ED visits to neighbourhoods reflects the location of residence of the patient (based on their postal code), and not necessarily the neighbourhood where the drug overdose event occurred.</li><li>Residents with a postal code that straddles more than one neighbourhood are allocated to neighbourhoods based on the relative size of the population residing in each of the straddled neighbourhoods. If there is no postal code information for an individual believed to reside in Ottawa, the resident is not attributed to a neighbourhood.&nbsp;<br />&nbsp;</li></ul><p><strong>Attributes:&nbsp;</strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><ul><li>ONS neighbourhood ID – the identification number for the Ottawa Neighbourhood Study (ONS) neighbourhood.</li><li>ONS neighbourhood name – the name of the ONS neighbourhood.</li><li>Cumulative number of overdose ED visits in Ottawa hospitals – the cumulative number of drug overdose ED visits in Ottawa hospitals.</li><li>Yearly average of overdose ED visits in Ottawa hospitals – the cumulative number of drug overdose ED visits in Ottawa hospitals divided by the number of years.</li><li>Average yearly rate (per 100,000 population) of overdose ED visits in Ottawa hospitals – the average of the yearly rate (per 100,000 population) of drug overdose ED visits in Ottawa hospitals. To calculate each year and neighbourhood’s annual rate, the total number of drug overdose ED visits by neighbourhood is divided by the population estimate for that neighbourhood and then multiplied by 100,000. This gives us an annual neighbourhood rate per 100,000 population for each year of data and neighbourhood.
