Based on satellite-based radar interferometry (Persistent Scatterer Interferometry, PSI), the ground motion cadastre represents vertical ground movement rates (mm/year) in North Rhine-Westphalia generalised in 250 m hexagons. Radar interferometry is a distant measurement method, which is increasingly established as a new standard for the detection of ground movements due to its high metrological accuracy and precision in the millimeter range in combination with a large spatial coverage and high temporal resolution. Freely available SAR data from the Sentinel-1 radar satellite mission, which is operated by ESA as part of the Copernicus programme, serve as the basis for the ground movement cadastre NRW. The storage and validation of radar interferometric measurement data is carried out by means of high-altitude points of official spatial reference. Each hexagon is spatially averaged from at least three pixel readings.
