LEXICAL AND LINGUACULTURAL PECULIARITIES OF SPORT TERMS IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK LANGUAGES

This article explores the lexical and linguacultural peculiarities of sport terminology in English and Uzbek through a comparative linguistic perspective. The study analyzes the etymological origins, semantic features, and word-formation mechanisms of sport-related terms in both languages, paying particular attention to borrowing, derivation, compounding, and metaphorical extension. Furthermore, it examines the influence of cultural, historical, and social factors on the formation and development of sport vocabulary. The findings reveal that sport terms serve not only as specialized linguistic units but also as carriers of national cultural values, traditions, and collective identities. The comparative analysis highlights both universal and culture-specific characteristics of sport terminology, contributing to a deeper understanding of the interaction between language, culture, and sports discourse. The results may be valuable for comparative linguistics, linguoculturology, terminology studies, translation theory, and intercultural communication research.
