The goal of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis (BL. infantis) and siallylactose in preventing necrotizing enterocolitis in a preterm piglet model. BL. infantis is a popular probiotic that has been associated with beneficial effects to infant host, specifically in the context of gastrointestinal diseases. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of this probiotic in a clinically relevant animal model with standardized diet and care.
