Administrative activity rate of 50-64 year olds

The activity rate expresses the ratio to the working age population (15-64 years old) of those who actually enter the labour market, whether they are employed or unemployed. That rate therefore reflects behaviour in relation to the labour market, which is itself dependent on a considerable number of variables relating to the individual, his family and his or her culture, as well as to the economic and institutional context in which it operates. Note: From 2011 onwards, the indicators are calculated on the basis of Steunpunt Werk estimates, marked by a break in series in 2017: the method of estimating non-taxable students is modified and employees of international bodies have been included in the employed assets. In 2019, the source used by Steunpunt Werk for the number of outgoing frontier workers changed, leading to a drop in employment, i.e. also in activity, and an increase in the unemployment rate, which may be significant in some border municipalities. As a result of this problem and the delay in Steunpunt Werk’s estimates from the growing difficulty of obtaining sufficiently detailed employee data, from 2019 onwards the indicators are calculated on the basis of provisional IWEPS estimates.
