This dataset is a collection of professional footballers born in the Île-de-France (Greater Paris) region of France between 1980 and 2006. It explores the relationship between the demographic composition of the region and its exceptional production of football talents, with the region widely regarded as one of the worlds largest breeding grounds for professional footballers. Key figures include: 713 professional footballers, of which 37.9% hold dual nationality and 40.5% are from the African diaspora. The main countries of origin (excluding France) are: Democratic Republic of the Congo (41), Mali (39), Senegal (29), Algeria (28), and Ivory Coast (25). The dataset is available in CSV, Parquet, and JSONL formats, and notes limitations such as selection bias (only players with a Wikidata page are included), birthplace not equaling training location, and identification of diaspora based on nationality data. It is suitable for analyzing regional talent production, studying migration and sports, demographic research, and sports sociology.
