Soils worthy of protection in Lower Saxony 1: 50 000 — Soils of cultural historical importance

Soils that are particularly worthy of protection include soils whose natural functions and their archival function are essentially preserved. Damage to these functions is to be avoided under soil protection law (cf. §1 BBodSchG). Soils with cultural historical significance are documents of human soil cultivation and have archival character. Historically important soils have emerged, for example, through arable measures that are no longer in use today. The methods for determining the protection of soils in Lower Saxony are detailed in Bug et al. (2019) described. The basis of the evaluations are the soil map of Lower Saxony 1: 50 000 (BK 50) and the Digital Landscape Model (DLM25) from LGLN.
