资源简介:

Overview Population age, gender, and race/ethnicity distributions from ACS tables B01001 (Sex by Age), B02001 (Race), and B03003 (Hispanic or Latino Origin), providing counts and percentages at block group, tract, and county levels. All measures are standardized to 2020 Census geographies using area-weighted crosswalks, enabling consistent multi-year analysis from 2009 to 2024. This dataset is produced by the Social Data Commons at the University of Virginia as part of the Population Demographics data pipeline. Provenance Directly tabulated from ACS 5-year estimates, table B01001 (Sex by Age). Female counts are from variable B01001_026. Values are available at Census tract, county, and block group levels on Census 2020 geography boundaries. Pre-2020 values have been standardized to 2020 boundaries using area-weighted crosswalks. Calculated from ACS 5-year estimates, table B01001 (Sex by Age). Female counts (B01001_026) divided by total population (B01001_001). Values are available at Census tract, county, and block group levels on Census 2020 geography boundaries. Pre-2020 values have been standardized to 2020 boundaries using area-weighted crosswalks. Directly tabulated from ACS 5-year estimates, table B01001 (Sex by Age). Male counts are from variable B01001_002. Values are available at Census tract, county, and block group levels on Census 2020 geography boundaries. Pre-2020 values have been standardized to 2020 boundaries using area-weighted crosswalks. Calculated from ACS 5-year estimates, table B01001 (Sex by Age). Male counts (B01001_002) divided by total population (B01001_001). Values are available at Census tract, county, and block group levels on Census 2020 geography boundaries. Pre-2020 values have been standardized to 2020 boundaries using area-weighted crosswalks. Directly tabulated from ACS 5-year estimates, table B01001 (Sex by Age), variable B01001_001 (total population). Methodology The count of female residents captures the size of the female population in a community. Gender-disaggregated population data is essential for planning services, allocating resources, and understanding demographic composition. The female population share measures the proportion of residents who are female. Significant departures from the statewide average can reflect local labor markets (e.g., military bases, college towns), age structure, or migration patterns. Total population count representing all residents regardless of gender. This baseline figure serves as the denominator for computing gender composition percentages and is essential for contextualizing a community's demographic profile. Changes in total population over time reflect broader trends in migration, development, and economic opportunity. The count of working-age residents (20-64) represents the primary labor force and tax base of a community. Changes in this group affect economic productivity, housing demand, and the ratio of dependents to workers. The count of older adult residents (65+) captures the number of residents who are seniors. Communities with large senior populations face growing demand for geriatric health services, accessible transportation, affordable housing, and age-friendly infrastructure. Total population count representing all residents across all age groups. This baseline figure serves as the denominator for computing age-group percentages and is essential for understanding the scale of a community's population. Changes in total population over time reflect broader trends in migration, development, and economic opportunity. The count of youth residents (under 20) captures the number of residents who are children and adolescents. Communities with large youth populations have greater demand for schools, childcare, pediatric health services, and family support programs. Count of Asian American/Pacific Islander residents in a community. Racial and ethnic composition data tracks the Asian American/Pacific Islander population in a community. Understanding demographic diversity is essential for equitable resource allocation, culturally competent service delivery, and monitoring disparities across groups. Understanding demographic diversity is essential for equitable resource allocation, culturally competent service delivery, and monitoring disparities across groups. Total population from the race/ethnicity table. This count serves as the denominator for calculating racial and ethnic composition percentages and provides the baseline population figure for a community. Understanding demographic diversity is essential for equitable resource allocation, culturally competent service delivery, and monitoring disparities across groups. Count of residents identifying as Two or More Races in a community. Racial and ethnic composition data tracks the Two or More Races population in a community.
