The Tianshan Snow and Avalanche Research Station of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was established in 1967. It is the only field observation station in China and Central Asia dedicated to long-term snow and avalanche monitoring and professional research. For a long time, the station has carried out in-situ observations of field climate, snow, frozen soil and avalanches, studies on hydrological processes and avalanche formation mechanisms, research and development, integration, demonstration and promotion of disaster prevention and mitigation technologies, as well as cooperation and exchanges, talent cultivation, science popularization and education, and other related work.
