Neon-rich Ejecta in the West Limb of the Puppis A Supernova Remnant

We propose a 30 ksec observation of the west limb of the Puppis A supernovaremnant to study Nerich ejecta. We discovered evidence of enhanced Xray lineemission from highly ionized Ne in archival ASCA data, but otherwise, Puppis Adoes not yield direct evidence of Xray emitting ejecta. The good angularresolution and high throughput of XMMNewton will enable us to isolate the Neejecta from the surrounding interstellar medium and perform spectroscopicstudies to measure the ejecta abundances.
