Oral swabs with rumen samples collected from dairy cows

The goal of this study was to correlate the darkness of oral swabs collected from dairy cows with the similarity of the swabs' bacterial and fungal communities to the rumen communities. Swabs were collected before morning feeding alongside rumen samples from any cannulated animals whenever possible. the ITS2 and V4 regions were characterized and compared with the rumen communities.
