Be careful of the data although downloading to the MAAF website is not formalised. Less-favoured areas are areas with natural constraints. In these areas, farmers are eligible for EU compensatory aid linked to this natural handicap. There are currently three types of less-favoured areas: — mountain areas; — simple less-favoured areas; — areas with specific handicaps. The mountain areas are not altered. France will introduce the payment of the Natural Disability Compensation Allowance (ICHN) on the basis of the new zoning as of 2018. Work on the establishment of the new zoning is under way.
