Primer sequences and cycling conditions used for amplification.

1Amplification was performed in a GeneAmp 9700 PCR System (Applied Biosystems) by a 10 min incubation at 95°C, followed by 45 cycles of 301 s. at 95°C, 45 s. at 60°C and 60 s. at 72°C. The program was completed by an extension step at 72°C for 7 min and a final hold at 4°C. 2Amplification of the coding mtDNA fragments was performed as described above, with an annealing temperature of 53°C instead of 60°C [10]. 3Amplification of the amelogenin gene was performed in a GeneAmp 9700 PCR System (Applied Biosystems). The cycling conditions were 10 minutes at 95°C, 45 cycles of 30 s at 95°C, 45 s at 55°C, 60 s at 72°C and a final extension step for 7 minutes at 72°C.
